Tedesco Worker Injured in Cart Incident

A employee was transported to Salem Hospital Monday morning for a leg injury he got when he was pinned under a work cart.

The was dispatched to the Swampscott side of the golf course, by the driving range, at 8:59 am.

The incident happened about 30 minutes earlier, said fire Capt. Kevin Thompson.

The accident happened when the man got out of the work cart and it rolled back on a hill, the captain said.

He tried to get into the cart and stop it but he fell. The cart's front wheel rolled on his left leg and he was unable to free himself, the captain said.

The man was pinned in that position for about 30 minutes before someone saw him and called 911.

Just before firefighters arrived some people had gotten the cart off him, the captain said.

The man was conscious and in pain when he moved, the captain said.

Firefighters, police officers and Action Ambulance EMTs treated the man at the scene. The EMTs placed his leg in a traction splint, a medical device often used when a bone is broken, the captain said.

He was placed on a backboard and transported to Salem Hospital.

Firefighters left the scene at 9:45 am.
