Bob Cusack a resident of Nahant started sailing and racing Turnabouts in 1957, and Town Class "Townies" in the 1960s. Later he graduated to cruising boats and when the family arrived, he chartered sailboats until returning to racing in 1997. Cusack has been a member of the Nahant Dory Club since 1957, and was the original sailing instructor for the Club in the early 1960s. In April 2002, then Flotilla Commander Art Capstaff of Marblehead swore in Bob as a member of the Marblehead USCG Auxiliary Flotilla. Since them Cusack has qualified as an instructor, specializing in teaching the navigation rules for pleasure boaters, and also as a Vessel Examiner conducting checks of required safety equipment for pleasure boaters. In addition, Cusack is the Auxiliary's area coordinator for Nahant and surrounding waters verifying that federal and private aides to navigation and bridges are in proper working order. In an effort to help boaters, he has agreed to write a column for the Marblehead Patch. He is encouraging readers to suggest to the Patch boating topics of interested.
