Swampscott Takes Saugus 62-52

Stephen Bowers scored 30 points in Swampscott’s best win of the season.

For the past three seasons, the winner of the biannual Swampscott-Saugus matchup has been the home team. And on Tuesday night, the tradition continued.  In their last home game, the Swampscott Big Blue seniors combined for 57 points, taking down the Saugus Sachems, 62-52, in what some considered Swampscott’s best performance of the year. Captain Stephen Bowers led the way with a strong 30 point performance, while Val Temin added 17.  Swampscott took the lead early, and never gave it up. The Big Blue began the game on a seven minute, 11-4 run led by Bowers, and never gave Saugus another chance to come back. Boys Hoops Tops Saugus, 65-59

The Big Blue ran out to a fast start and finished strong, collecting their second win of the week and upping their record to 2-2.

  Swampscott ran out to a 9-0 lead in the first quarter, then played a solid game the remainder of the way as Saugus creeped no closer than five points. The boys evened their season record at 2-2 with a 65-59 win Thursday night at the high school. Michael Walsh led the way for Swampscott with 16 points, and Val Temin tallied 15, including  six-of-six from the free throw line.  Curtis Casella poured in 20 for the visitors to lead all scorers.
