We are Screaming Eagles - a division three Swampscott U12 soccer team. We (Greg Gutin and Adam Roth) were privileged to coach this team for the past three seasons. During this time, the team made significant progress and moved up three levels, thanks to the players' drastically improving skills. This gave us an opportunity to face teams of higher skill each season. Although our first two seasons were good, and we always managed to be in the middle of our group’s competition, this past fall season held the most significance for us. Our team had five wins, two losses, and one tie. Our last game was especially important as we faced the North Andover team for the second time this season. We did lose that first game with North Andover’s team…

Nick Eiser played goalie for the first half goalie and Ben Quigley defended between the sticks in the second half. Ben Quigley scored both Blue Raider goals. Their next game is next Saturday in Lawrence against the Lawrence Thunder at 9 a.m.

The Swampscott Stripers U-14 girls Soccer team defeated Hamilton-Wenham Saturday with a 5-0 shutout in their first game of the season. Amanda Szczawinski started off the scoring at center with a goal in the first half assisted by offensive wings Riley Lord, Liza McCathern and Morgan McBurney. Szczawinski continued with two more goals in the second half for a hat trick on the day. Taking over the center offensive position, Maggie Barden drilled two additional goals in the second half to secure the win for Swampscott. Offensive control was maintained by the Stripers throughout the game with exceptional play by midfielders Anna Cilley, Julia Kornerup, Molly Marocco, Codi Butt and Margot Beaupre. Swampscott Youth Soccer to hold open forum in two weeks.
Swampscott Youth Soccer Association (SYSA) will hold an open forum on Monday, Feb. 27 at 7:30 pm at the Swampscott Club, 362 Humphrey Street in Swampscott. All members of the local youth soccer community are invited to attend with questions and comments about SYSA and its programs.

The Swampscott Sculpins have clearly put an opening week lose behind them with their second straight solid performance, a 4-0 win over the Amesbury Raiders at Phillips Park. The Sculpins, a U12 boys soccer team playing in the Essex County Youth Soccer Association, were backed by a superior effort from Dan Johnson and Maxx Cooper who split the goalkeeper duties. Johnson held down the Raiders in the first half turning away a number of shots especially in the opening fifteen minutes before the Sculpin offense got going. Johnson's highlight save was an acrobatic maneuver on a high shot at the cross bar where he stretched back for the stop and maintained his balance to stay out of the net. Cooper …
