Kahn Shines on Tough Night of Wrestling

Black and Blue wrestler Parker Kahn was a bright spot on otherwise tough meet vs Triton Regional on Tuesday.

  Swampscott senior Parker Kahn and sophomore Michael McCuish were among the bright spots in last night’s wrestling match against Triton Regional High School, one of the top ranked teams in Massachusetts. The Swampscott-Marblehead team lost 37-6, but Kahn, wrestling at 220 pounds, pinned his opponent with just 56 seconds remaining in his match. “I was pleased to have Parker join the team this year, as he has some experience from wrestling his freshman and sophomore years at Hopkinton High School. He is emerging as a leader on the team, and I am happy I got him as a senior,” said Head Coach Mike Stamison. McCuish, wrestling at 160 pounds, fought a brave battle, losing 15-6. Wrestlers in First Home Meet Tonight

The combination Swampscott/Marblehead team will tangle with Danvers/Ham-Wen tonight at 6 pm at Swampscott High School.

  The Black and Blue wrestling team will hit the mat for their first home meet of the season tonight at 6 pm at Swampscott High School. Wrestling supporters will raffle coupons to establishments including Yans Bistro and Hot Cheese Pizza at the home opener. Coach Mike Stamison and his staff have been hammering away at the basics, arm bar defense and better body positioning as they prepare the grapplers for the rigorous wrestling season. "We are well conditioned, but also have to be fundamentally sound, and that's what we are going to work on before the holiday break," the coach said. Black and Blues With Impressive Pins [VIDEO]

The combined Swampscott/Marblehead wrestling team lost their first match by a wide margin to Beverly but went to the mat in a close one against Danvers-Hamilton/Wenham on Saturday.

  The Swampscott-Marblehead high school wrestling team lost two team matches at the Northeastern Conference tournament held on Saturday at Beverly High School, but several members of  the team had outstanding individual performances in both varsity and junior varsity matches. In its first meet of the 2011-2012 season, the Black & Blue team lost 60-14 against Beverly High School, but Marblehead junior Sean Taylor, wrestling as a heavyweight, pinned his opponent at 1:14 of the first period for 6 points, Swampscott junior Jacob Powell, wrestling at 113 pounds, earned a tech fall in his match, wining 23-6 for 5 points, and Marblehead senior Jeff Sherman, wrestling at 126 pounds, won his match 4-3 for 3 points. Black & Blue Booster Club Seeks Members

The booster club for the combined Marblehead/Swampscott wrestling team is raising money for warm-ups and other team gear.

This article was submitted by Robert Powell of the Boosters Club.  The Black & Blue Wrestling Booster Club, the fundraising arm of the combined Marblehead-Swampscott high school wrestling team, is seeking donations to support the purchase of warm-up suits, singlets, and other related equipment and apparel. The Black & Blue Booster Club is also seeking former wrestlers and fans of the sport to join our club to help with fundraising and other activities. The 2010-11 team had an extremely successful season and our hope is to build upon that success.
