The town and Postal Service have yet to determine the new location for the boxes.
Town and US Postal Service representatives expect to talk soon about where to move the four mailboxes in front of the US Post Office. That was the word last week. A week earlier, Town Administrator Tom Younger told selectmen that the Postal Service had agreed to move its blue mailboxes. The move will hopefully curb crowded offstreet parking and u-turns in the area in front of the 49 Elmwood Road facility. Town officials have been meeting with Elmwood Road neighbors since about July on a variety of Post Office related items, the town administrator said. Those issues include traffic, parking, u-turns and the hours of mail transportation, he said.

Town Hall employees crafted some fine, fine homemade candy, and arranged some eye-popping holiday sweaters.
OK, the sweaters weren't hideous. They weren't ugly and they didn't just say holiday though those were the two themes town employees were following for Wednesday's dress-up day at Town Hall. Call the look hugly. Eat your heart out Lady Gaga. Following the recent crazy hat day — a fundraier for My Brother's Table — the women and men of Town Hall donned sweaters hung and strung with holiday lights, ornaments and whatever else the imagination invited. Marcia Willis wore a red sweater hung with 10 years worth of town historian Lou Gallo's handmade wooden ornaments. Each year the local historian crafts a new design for his Christmas ornament and replicates it for his holiday gift. He's been at it 30 year. That's 30 designs. They include …

Selectmen have extended the sales negotiations with the property developer.
Selectmen have extended the sales negotiations agreement the town has with the developer of the town-owned Temple Israel property until April. Charing Cross Realty Trust has proposed to buy the property from the town for $2.2 million and build 19 new homes on the site. But proposed zoning changes needed for the development failed to get the required two-thirds vote at Town Meeting in May. The item failed to receive a simple majority, going down to defeat by a vote of 93-104. Representatives from the development company said after last week's selectmen meeting that they plan to talk to residents about the project in the coming weeks and months. They also said they may present a new proposal to the expected fall Town Meeting and then seek …

On Wednesday the town clerk determined the order in which candidates' names will appear on the ballot.
The wooden balls rattled around in a wooden box Wednesday and three candidates were on hand to see where their names will fall on the ballot. Town Clerk Sue Duplin put two numbered balls in the box for the selectmen's race. She turned the crank and spun the box and pulled out a ball that determined incumbent, Matt Strauss, got the first position. His opponent, challenger Glenn Kessler, was in the room. "That works for me," he said. It had to be one or two since only two people are running for the three-year seat. Another Kessler was in the selectmen's room for the drawing, Nelson Kessler — he and Glenn are not related — and he ended up with the third postion in the three-candidate Board of Health race. Deborah Shelkan Remis, who was also…

Historical Commission members requested the first-floor conference room at Town Hall be named for the former town administrator.
Selectmen will wait and hear what residents think about naming Town Hall's first-floor conference room in honor of Andrew Maylor before they take any action. Historical Commission members brought the idea to the board Wednesday, saying Maylor played a pivotal role in preserving what is a local gem and a National Historic Landmark — Town Hall. Commission Chairman Jean Reardon and member Sylivia Belkin said Maylor truly cared about the former home of prolific inventor Elihu Thomson. The town administrator forged ahead with its restoration, they said. "He took a pride in this building and he took a pride in restoring this building," Reardon said. Selectmen agreed with the sentiment but not necessarily with the action. Selectman Jill …
