Marblehead And Swampscott Battle Even

The final score between the rivals was 2-2 in an exciting hockey game Saturday at Rockett Arena.

  The hockey game had hard checking, shots on goal and solid play from both goalies. The game had end-to-end play, glass-shaking hits and the packed crowd on its feet. It had the excitement that Marblehead/Swampscott contests generate. And in the end it had a tie score, 2-2. In the final minutes of the final period, Nunzio Morretti of Swampscott redirected a puck past Marblehead goalie Mike Harper. That made the score 2-2. But throughout the game at Salem State's O'Keefe Center, Harper turned away point-blank shots. "Mike Harper played real well in net," Marblehead Coach Bob Jackson said. Blue Hockey Game Ends in Deadlock: 2-2

Swampscott lines fired away on the Revere goal Saturday but failed to bang home the game-winner.

  There's good ties. And there's bad ties. Swampscott High hockey's 2-2 tie with Revere on Saturday had more in common with the latter kind. "To us, it was a disappointing tie," coach Gino Faia said. His team had lots of opportunties — more than 40 shots  — in their 2-2 afternoon tie on the Rockett Arena ice at Salem State University. "We didn't execute," the coach said. Blue scored both their goals in the first period. Senior forward Matt Videtta got Blue on the board with a power-play goal at the 8:03 mark, assisted by a pair of juniors, Chris Carman and Trevor Massey.
