What year was this lithograph made? We have a winner.
Then and Now asked when? What year was this lithograph, a print, made? The answer was 1856 and the correct response came from George Chaisson. Congratulations George. The lithograph, according to the Swampscott Historical Society, was made by J.B. Batchelder and shows a horse-drawn carriage moving along Orient Street, today called Puritan Road. The big building on the right was the Big Anawan, later called the Oakland, a family hotel located at the end of Ross Road, according to the Historical Society's write-up on the print.
