Swampscott Seeking Solar Coach

The Renewable Energy Committee has attracted volunteers for the program but as of yet no volunteer solar coach. Interested? Call Peter Kane, Swampscott's Energy Manager at 781-596-8829 or email him at pkane@town.swampscott.ma.us.

  Are you interested in solar energy?  Would you like to see it integrated more throughout the town?  The Renewable Energy Committee is looking for a volunteer that can lead the effort.  As written in a previous Patch article on February 5th, our town is applying for a very unique program called Solarize Massachusetts.  Sponsored by the Mass Clean Energy Center, it is directed specifically at private residents allowing them to aggregate their purchasing power as one large group.  This drives down costs in a community effort to make solar affordable.  We are partnering our application with the city of Salem to pursue even more buying power. Help Swampscott and Salem Soak up More Solar Energy

Energize the Solarize Massachusetts project by learning about small solar projects and by taking an online survey.

  Massachusetts wants more small solar projects to shine in towns and cities throughout the commonwealth. It's already happening through the Solarize Massachusetts program, and now Salem and Swampscott are answering the commonwealth's call by jointly applying to the program. Solarize uses coaches to teach residents about the power source's benefits. It uses incentives to boost savings on solar projects. And it drives down the cost of installing small solar units by buying in bulk. Solar power has seen dramatic growth throughout the Commonwealth, thanks to programs and policies created under Governor Deval Patrick to meet his goal of 250 megawatts (MW) of solar power in the state by 2017, according to Salem and Swampscott officials.
