Salem Harbor Power Station CEO Touts Design of New Facility

One smokestack would replace three, and that one less than half the height of the tallest existing stack.

The natural gas plant slated to replace the coal-fired facility at Salem Harbor Power Station will be smaller, cleaner — and much better looking. That's a summary of part of a wide-ranging presentation given by the CEO of the company that says it will transform the site into a mixed-use area that will not only power the region, but also provide berths for big cruise ships. Peter Furniss of Footprint Power spoke to a capacity crowd of more than 200 at Tuesday morning's North Shore Chamber of Commerce Executive Breakfast Forum. Salem Police Charge Swampscott Brothers With B & E

The brothers claimed they entered a Salem residence early Friday morning to use the phone. A resident locked herself in an upstairs room when she heard two men in her kitchen.

  Salem police charged two Swampscott brothers with breaking into a Salem residence on Friday. John J. Larkin, 20, of 93 Essex St., Swampscott, was arrested on two charges of breaking and entering at night with intent to commit a crime, according to Salem police.  Phillip A. Larkin, 19, of 93 Essex St., Swampscott, was arrested on a charge of breaking and entering at night with intent to commit a crime, according to Salem police. About 5 am Friday, police received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of Charles Street, the Salem police log states. Swampscott Man Arrested For Salem Commotion

The man, Henry Bellows, got upset after he was unable to gain access to his former property. The man has a longstanding battle with the building inspector in Salem over Bellows' former address, police said.

Salem police said a Swampscott man was arrested after he became belligerent in the City Hall Annex and subsequently caused a scene in Townhouse Square while "berating" an officer Monday. At 11:55 am. Monday, police said they received a call reporting that a man was being disruptive at 120 Washington St. Police said they met a man, Henry Bellows, 56, of 16 Lewis Road, Swampscott, outside the building. The officer was familiar with the man. The man has "a longstanding battle with the building inspector over his former address" that was condemned due to unsafe conditions/fire code violations earlier this year, police said. VIDEO: Snooki is a Hound With a Whole Lot of Love

After a rough start, this Northeast Animal Shelter resident is looking to start over.

Snooki is a Walker hound from West Virginia. Northeast Animal Shelter Communications Director Steve Oakes said Snooki was found wandering in a neighborhood. "The pads on her paws were so torn up she could hardly walk," he explained. Now that she has healed, Snooki is looking to enjoy the rest of her life in a home where she'll get to play and share her love with a family of her own.  Watch our video for more on Snooki.
