Swampscott was hit by an unspecified number of power outages earlier this morning, part of the widespread power outages plaguing the East Coast, according to a National Grid spokeswoman. As of 11:30 a.m. Thursday, fewer than five Swampscott homes or businesses were without power, the spokeswoman said. National Grid will check the total number of outages, at their peak, that took place in Swampscott. In all likelihood it was the weather that caused electricity to stop flowing, a National Grid spokeswoman said. High winds have pounded coastal communities, tossing recycling bins to the wind and rattling window casings.
