Parties and Underage Drinking Reminder From DA Blodgett
Swampscott High is among the 16 schools that have requested that the district attorney send his letter to parents of graduating seniors.
With prom and graduation season upon us, Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett has reached out to local police and school departments to remind parents and students about the laws concerning hosting parties and underage drinking. “The bottom line is that we want everyone to enjoy their prom and graduation celebrations safely,” District Attorney Blodgett said. “This is an important and exciting milestone in the life of a young person and for their parents. Unfortunately, there are occasions when alcohol becomes part of the celebration. Updated: 13 Overnight Car Breaks in Swampscott
Police are urging residents to lock vehicles and remove valuable items.
Swampscott police are investigating 13 car breaks in the early morning hours Monday in the area of Winshaw and Gale and Shelton Roads. A review of the incident reports indicates all the cars were unlocked, said Swampscott police Det. Bill Waters. Thieves stole GPS units, other electronics and loose change, police said. Some cars had nothing stolen. Police encourage residents to report suspicious activity and relay any information to police about these incidents by calling Swampscott Police at 781-595-1111. Monday's 13 breaks follow an earlier rash of break-ins, 14, in late March. There is nothing to indicate the recent break are related to the March breaks, Det. Teens Charged With OUI and Underage Possession
The 16-year-old and 17-year-old face additional charges including resisting arrest.
A teen who fled police in a vehicle was charged with OUI, liquor. Another teen who fled on foot was charged with possessing alcohol. Both of them face additional charges following an incident late Friday. Police responded to a call at 11:11 p.m., reporting a suspicious vehicle parked for 15 to 20 minutes at Phillips Beach Avenue and Stonecleave Lane, according to a police report. Upon police's arrival, suspects fled on foot and a suspect in a motor vehicle fled. The driver was 16, a Swampscott resident. He was charged with OUI, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, failure to stop for police, speeding, being under 21 and possessing liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of property damage, a learner's permit …
Swampscott Motorcyclists Injured in Crash
The crash took place on Friday night in Hamilton.
A motorcycle crashed head-on into a convertible on Route 1A in Hamilton on Friday evening leaving a Swampscott man and woman with injuries, the man with a serious injury. The crash happened about 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Moulton Street when a motorcycle headed southbound crossed the yellow line and struck an Audi headed northbound. The motorcycle driver, John McLaughlin, 52, of Swampscott was taken by ambulance to Beverly Hospital and loaded into a MedFlight helicopter and taken to Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. He suffered a serious leg injury. His passenger Kathleen McLaughlin, 49, his wife, suffered less serious injuries. She was treated and released at Beverly Hospital. Shooter Still at Large in Essex Street Shooting Monday
Swampscott police gave chase, pursuing the suspect shortly after midnight.
The incident began early Monday with a suspect fleeing a shooting on Essex Street in Lynn just over the Swampscott line. The pursuit and search wound down hours later with a helicopter sweeping Salem. In between, Swampscott police gave chase, with Sgt. Jay Locke pulling over the suspect's vehicle on Paradise Road — and its driver hitting the gas, said Swampscott police.
