We talked to the man whose Atlantic Avenue home was used in the Seth MacFarlane movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis.
The comedy Ted, a movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, has some major Swampscott connections. For one, the main character, John, played by Wahlberg, was born in Swampscott, according to the movie plot. And as many Swampscott people will remember — a major scene in the film was shot inside and outside a Swampscott home on Atlantic Avenue back in May of 2011. In the movie the home belonged to the character Rex, the hated manager of the Mila Kunis character, Lori. In real life, the Ron family lives in the Atlantic Avenue home with the spectacular view of the Atlantic Ocean by Preston Beach. Ori Ron told Patch right before the film opened that he planned on seeing the movie but his greatest interest in it was what it and other movies…

The movie remains in post-production according to an NBCUniversal spokesman.
Academy Awards night and Oscar acceptance speeches will get some local people thinking about Swampscott's shoulder brush with Hollywood in 2011. Film crews were in town the first week in May shooting scenes for the movie Ted starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. The movie remains in post production and scenes are not finalized, according to an NBCUniversal spokesman. The movie is set for release July 13, he said. Back in May film crews were shooting at 441 Atlantic Ave., a 10,000-square-foot, contemporary home on Preston Beach. Scenes included a big party. The story in the live action/computer-animated comedy has the Wahlberg character, John Bennett, as an adult, dealing with his teddy bear. The teddy comes to life due to a wish Bennett…

The year 2011 brought Hollywood, humor and controversy to town. It also brought fire and water. In no small measure. There was a devastating fire and brutal flood, each of which landed hard hits on residents including destroyed residences and businesses and flooded homes. And in each instance firefighters, police officers, public works employees and other town workers along with neighbors, friends and complete strangers rallied helping hands. These were among the topics that generated the greatest interest on the Swampscott Patch website. Through Sunday we will list the Top 10 stories of 2011 in Swampscott ending with the top story on Sunday. 7) Condo Architects Sent Back to Drawing Boards From April 28: Zoning Board criticizes designs …

The movie scene was quiet at midday. Still, there will plenty of people out searching for a glimpse of Mark Wahlberg.
Sisters Judy Coyne, 63, and Jane Linsley, 66, walked about five miles for a look at the movie set for Ted in Swampscott. The sisters from Lynn snapped photos of the setrucks and light stands and electrical boxes. They admired the lonely house and seemed satisfied just to see it without any action. The set had all the quiet of a ghost town in a Hollywood western. But the Mark Wahlberg film is being shot in the east, and the Swampscott scenes are hard against the Atlantic Ocean at 441 Atlantic Ave. It's a comedy about a grown character's childhood Teddy Bear coming to life. A resident who lives nearby, Andi Oberlander, walked along Atlantic Avenue with a small digital camera looking for Mark Wahlberg. "I went down to the beach to see if …

The Fighter should win Best Picture at the Academy Awards, because Mark Wahlberg's mother is a very nice lady.
Editor's Note: This article first appeared on Swampscott Patch back on Feb. 27, before the Academy Awards. We're rerunning it while Mark Wahlberg is on location in Swampscott, shooting his movie, Ted. When I went to bed a week ago last Thursday night, I had no idea that the next afternoon I would be working on the Academy Awards TV broadcast. Prologue Films, my brother Kyle’s film company based in LA, is working on the Oscar telecast for the ninth straight year. This year they will be featuring interviews with the mothers of directors, actors, writers and producers who’ve been nominated for a golden statue in 2011. Many of the interviewees could be tracked down or sent to California, some wanted to remain on the East Coast, so the …

Mila Kunis plays Lori and Mark Wahlberg plays John in “Ted”, a movie about a man whose childhood teddy bear comes to life threatening his current day relationships. The movie is the first full-length feature film directed by Seth MacFarlane of “Family Guy” fame. The movie also stars Giovanni Ribisi, Patrick Warburton, Jessica Stroup and Joel McHale. Some scenes from the film, slated for release in 2012, will be filmed at a home on Atlantic Avenue, right next to the entrance to Preston Beach, across the street from Beach Bluff Avenue. The two leads have both had an interesting 2011, in addition to the thrill of being in Swampscott to shoot scenes from a movie. Kunis’s co-star in Black Swan, Natalie Portman took home an Oscar, and Christian …
