The interview is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Swampscott High School.
Today at 5 p.m. a candidate for interim superintendent will interview in public before the School Committee at the high school. That candidate is Garry Murphy. He is well suited to meet the district's needs, and is the lone finalist for the interim position, said Rick Kraft, a member of both the School Committee member and interim search panel. Murphy was interim superintendent at Hillsboro-Deering last year and an educational consultant for Arlington, Nashoba Valley, Groton-Dunstable and Swamspcott between 2005-2010. He retired in 2005 after 13 years as superintendent for the Triton Regional School District. He will come to the committee recommended by the search panel. But before that even happens an interim senator has to be named. On Wednesday, Governor Deval Patrick announced his former chief of staff William “Mo” Cowan will be the interim senator and will serve until a new senator is elected in the June 25 special election. Patch reported in December that Cowan, a Stoughton resident, would be stepping down this month and returning to the private sector. Board members tonight will appoint their member to the Town Administrator Search Committee.
Tonight selectmen will appoint a member to the committee charged with finding candidates for town administrator. Selectmen Chairman Matt Strauss said about six people have expressed interest in sitting on the search committee. He'll recommend an appointee to fellow selectmen and they will discuss the person. After a nomination is made they will vote. The Finance Committee has already selected Cindy Merkle as its representative to the search panel. The School Committee selected Neil Bernstein. Town Moderator Joe Markarian will choose the final two members.
