Here's our round up of the area's latest food news: In the Witch City, new restaurants are going in on the same corner at Essex and Washington. Already open is Naumkeag Ordinary, a pub that's opened in the previous Cafe Polonia spot. A warm-looking bar greets you as you come in. Round the corner and you'll see the renovations underway at the old A Taste of Thyme. That spot will reopen as Medusa's Cafe. I could do without the Ayn Rand fever-dreams from co-CEO John Mackey, who spoke in Boston on the subject recently. Parent company Nestle voluntarily recalls two product codes of the Culinary Collection Mushroom Mezzaluna Ravioli, after 3 consumers reported finding glass fragments.
If you have Lean Cuisine's Culinary Collection Mushroom Mezzaluna Ravioli in your freezer, don't eat it before checking the product codes. If the box bears either production code 2311587812 or 2312587812 and the "best before date" appears as DEC 2013, then the product is part of a voluntary recall after three consumers reported finding glass fragments in the ravioli. No injuries have been reported. According to a news release, "The entree being recalled was produced during early November, 2012. Due to its popularity, Nestle believes very little remains in retail distribution." Last check, late last week, there was no new information on whether the raptor was still there or had gotten out. The classic American bar will feature traditionally prepared cocktails, craft beer, and wines from small producers with outstanding Americanized bistro fare.
