Cap'n Jack's Goes to ConsCom Tonight

Conservation Commission members will hear the building plan developers have for Cap'n Jack's Waterfront Inn. The Commission will set conditions for the project, if not tonight then at a later date.

Tuesday night will be eventful for the planned development of the Cap'n Jack's Inn property. Developers Bruce Paradise and Barry Turkanis will present their notice of intent — what they plan to build — to the Conservation Commission. That meeting is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Town Hall in the selectmen's room. A half-hour earlier, in the second-floor conference room at Town Hall, the Historical Commission is scheduled to vote on a delay to the demolition of the Inn's three buildings for up to nine months. Several Historical Commission members spoke in favor of the delay last week but held off their vote on the question until tonight. This is a similar scenario to the abutting condo owners holding up the project that was to replace the old Pap Johns restaurant. What did the community get, about three years with a graffiti cover rat infested building. Paradise bought the parcel and is now constructing a pretty attractive building.   more ›

New Police Station Project Forging Ahead

The town Conservation Commission approved the building plans on Wednesday.

Plans for the town’s new police station received approval from the Swampscott Conservation Commission on Wednesday. “I’m pleased the plans have been approved and that we can move ahead,” Police Chief Ron Madigan said. Conservation review typically includes wetland, setback and drainage items. Conservation Commission member Tom Rusk said the panel approved the plan for the Humphrey Street station project and will issue an OOC, or order of conditions, so work can begin. “They will not need to appear before the Commission until the project is completed when they will request a certificate of compliance,” Rusk stated.
