Let's measure the blizzard through lawn ornaments!
We at Patch like to have fun – even when we’re covering a story as big as the Blizzard of ’13! So when the biggest storm in years (potentially in the history of Boston weather) is headed our way, we get into battle mode – and even get a little silly. That’s what this idea is about – and we want you to take part too! A fun way we want to track the storm across Massachusetts is through lawn ornaments. They serve a purpose in the spring and summer, but often feel left out in the cold of winter. Not anymore. We are posting photos of lawn ornaments throughout Massachusetts to highlight snowfall across the commonwealth during and after the storm. Storm warning have event organizers postponing events well in advance.
Postponements are rolling in well in advance of Friday and Saturday's predicted Nor'easter, a howling storm that could blanket the North Shore with 20 or more inches of snow. The PTA/Hadley School dance that was planned for Friday night at the Middle School was rescheduled for Feb. 14, at 6:30, at the Swampscott Middle School, Hadley Principal Sandra Rivers said. Over at the high school, the Swampscott track teams' annual pancake breakfast that was set to take place Saturday morning has been postponed until Saturday, March 2. The track team fundraiser will run from 9 a.m. to noon in the high school cafeteria on the second day of March. It seems that this overreaction by the government and the media has the same effect as political correctness. That is to say it makes us numb to words like "racist" and "dangerous conditions".....so that when we really need to be aware of those problems....we don't hear the warning or care.   more ›
