Wrestlers Triumph at Sectionals

The Black and Blue wrestling team, a combined squad from Swampscott and Marblehead high schools, enjoyed their best day ever on Saturday in the Div. 3 Northern Sectional Tournament.

The Swampscott-Marblehead wrestling team yesterday enjoyed its best day in the history of the program at the Division 3 North Sectional tournament. There were six place finishers out of 10 wrestlers competing. And Jake Powell (126) and Sean Taylor (285), both of whom are seniors and co-captains, become the first-ever two-time sectional champions for the Black & Blue wrestling team. Surprising everyone at 160, including his opponent in the semi-final with a nasty spladle, was senior Joe Mitlin, who took second place and fought well against a great wrestler in Boyle from Triton in his finals match. Congrats also belong to Ali Atallah, a 182-pound Marblehead junior, and Maleek Tiondre Newsome, a 170-pound Swampscott junior, who by winning …

Swampscott-Marblehead Wrestling Starts Strong

The Black & Blue wrestling team won its opening dual meet against Salem at the Northeast Conference tournament held Saturday at Beverly High School.

The Black & Blue wrestling team got off to its best start in years at the Northeast Conference tournament held Saturday at Beverly High School. The team beat Salem 33-30, for its first dual meet victory of the season. The meet against Salem was filled with highlights: Stephen Hopkins, an 8th grader wrestling at 106 pounds, pinned his Salem opponent halfway through the first period. That pin, in what was Hopkins second bout ever as a varsity wrestler, was among the many bright spots on the day.  "Very exciting to have Hopkins as the first ever 8th grader to wrestle in the program's history,” said head coach Mike Stamison. “It'll be a learning year for him, and he's sure to take his lumps, but he is very eager to contribute, and I love …

Powell, a Swampscott junior, won the 113-pound championship in a hard-fought overtime match against Tom Funk of Pentucket, who was ranked as the 9th best 113-pound wrestler in the state. Kahn Shines on Tough Night of Wrestling

Black and Blue wrestler Parker Kahn was a bright spot on otherwise tough meet vs Triton Regional on Tuesday.

Swampscott senior Parker Kahn and sophomore Michael McCuish were among the bright spots in last night’s wrestling match against Triton Regional High School, one of the top ranked teams in Massachusetts. The Swampscott-Marblehead team lost 37-6, but Kahn, wrestling at 220 pounds, pinned his opponent with just 56 seconds remaining in his match. “I was pleased to have Parker join the team this year, as he has some experience from wrestling his freshman and sophomore years at Hopkinton High School. He is emerging as a leader on the team, and I am happy I got him as a senior,” said Head Coach Mike Stamison. McCuish, wrestling at 160 pounds, fought a brave battle, losing 15-6. Swampscott sophomore Maleek Newsome continued to show promise as …
