Fans got loud. Fans got quiet. They mugged and danced for the TD Garden glam cam and rooted for their hockey team Sunday. They made a sea of white in their white T-shirts. Big Blue supporters came out big-time for the Swampscott hockey game on Sunday, a game that ended in a 4-1 loss to Westfield. What was gained was the fun getting there and being in the championship, Swampscott's first hockey finals. And based on underclassmen's play this year — they may be back. Westfield Bombers Find Their Target, 4-1

Tourney Journey Ends in Garden
Big Blue battled Westfield and was on the verge of turning the tide before Westfield scored an empty-netter to make it 4-1.
The run ended Sunday in Boston for Big Blue and their legions of fans when they lost to Westfield 4-1 for the Div. III state championship. Robert Serino wrapped around the goal late in the third period and swept in a goal to make the score 3-1, breathing new life into the Swampscott attack. Big Blue followed with several threats in the Westfield end, but none of the shots found a home past the Westfield goalie. Westfield, on the other hand, added an empty-netter to make the final 4-1. Swampscott had a huge fan following. Hundreds of students in white shirts chanted and cheered at the end for a come-back. One of their cheers, "It ain't over," reflected the team's play on the ice. Grandmother Gets to Big Blue Games No Matter What
Connie Morretti Petroni, 84, will be among the Swampscott fans at the Garden.
She may be Big Blue hockey's oldest fan and biggest supporter. It's tough for Connie Morretti Petroni, 84, to get around but she gets to the Swampscott games. At the last one, the overtime win against Medway, Connie got so emotional she could not move. "I had to sit there, my heart was pounding," she said. Her daughter Madeline Romano said it was a major feat for her to climb all the stairs — even with her children's help — at the Chelmsford Forum for the Medway game. Due to health issues walking distances can be an issue and climbing stairs is exhausting. "But she needs to be up high to be able to see the game," said Madeline. "We even managed to get her up standing on the bleacher seats (in Stoneham) at the game when everyone was …

Swampscott High Rallies For Hockey
The high school's hundreds of students filled their auditorium and sent their hockey players to the Garden on a high note — rallying the team to the state championship.
The high school hockey team sat quietly on the stage's edge facing their schoolmates. Occassionally some of the players in tan pants and white hockey jerseys shook their heads or looked at each other with raised eyebrows acknowledging this unexpected delightful time in their lives. It was the end of the school day Friday and the students were there to rally their team for the high school Div. III state championship game against Westfield at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. Emotional scenes from the movie Miracle played on the screen in the darkened auditorium. Athletic Director Jon Flanagan spoke of the Swampscott team's character and heart.
