Babe Ruth Stars Defeat Wakefield 6-4

The Swampscott 15-year-olds got fine pitching from Albert Wallach.

This article was submitted by Swampscott Babe Ruth League. After a defeat in the opening game of the Eastern Mass Babe Ruth tournament against the Lynn All-Stars, the Swampscott 15’s came back with a win behind a stellar pitching performance by Albert Wallach.  Wallach recorded 10 K's with no walks, going the distance against a very good Wakefield team. His pinpoint accuracy and curve ball kept the Wakefield players confused and frustrated. Catcher Neil Lahrizi called a great game and blocked those nasty curve balls from Wallach. Swampscott scored two runs in the first inning with lead-off batter Danny Burke hitting a single. Plate discipline was shown with four walks in the first by Ryan Cresta, Neil Lahrizi, Spencer Mulvey and Max …

Methuen East Eliminates Swampscott All-Stars

The Methuen East bats kept pounding away at the 11-year-old Swampscott All-Stars, cranking out 11 hits and eight runs, beating the locals for the second straight time, eliminating Swampscott from post-season play.

The Methuen East All-Stars didn’t waste any time Friday night, scoring four times in the top of the first, including a three-run shot by Jake Mendeszoon, on the way to an 8-3 win over Swampscott's 11-year-old All-Stars in North Reading. Liam Faulkner drove home Maxx Cooper in the bottom of the first with a homer to center to give Swampscott some life, but that’s as close as they would get. Methuen East came out swinging early, just like they did Wednesday night when they beat Swampscott 15-3. “We don’t like to walk, we’d rather do our damage with doubles, singles and triples,” Methuen East manager Peter Gangi said. “We tell the kids to be aggressive at the plate, let’s jump on the other team quickly.” Swampscott and Methuen East were both …

Swampscott 11s Eye Sectional All-Star Action

The Little League baseball team is ready to square up against a tough Methuen East team on Wednesday.

The Swampscott Little League 11-year-old All-Stars have had excellent practices heading into Wednesday's match-up with Methuen East. That's a good thing. The District 16 champs will need to be sharp against Methuen, Swampscott Manager Dan Santanello said. Methuen East has outscored its opponents 45-2 in five games, he said. The other team in the Section 4 tournament is host North Reading, fire hardened by a thrilling win to advance to the double-elimination Sectionals. North Reading not only plays on their home field but they have a bye, meaning they will play the winner of the Swampscott/Methuen East game. That game will be Thursday. But first things first. Swampscott plays at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday in North Reading at the Benevento Complex…

11s in District 16 Championship Tuesday

The undefeated Swampscott Little League 11-year-old All-Stars get a rematch with Saugus American for the district title.

The undefeated 11-year-old All-Star team players were on their home field Friday, practicing base running and other game situations. They were drilling in advance of Tuesday's 5:45 p.m. championship game. The team now knows what team they will play: Saugus American Little League's All-Stars. Again. Swampscott beat them 4-3 on Wednesday in District 16 tournament play. And the Swampscott 11s know where the will play: Nahant. Swampscott has two chances to win the championship and advance in state tournament play. But on Friday, and in all practices, the focus was on the Swampscott team's preparation, Coach Dan Santanello said. "Repetitions, repetitions, repetitions," he said. "How you practice determines how you will play." The Swampscott …
