Humphrey Crash in Marblehead Injures Three Overnight

Firefighters had to extricate the injured. A K-9 was called in to search for the driver.

  A car crash by 87 Humphrey St. early Friday left at least three people with apparent injuries. Police and fire units were called to the scene at 2:23 a.m., according to the Marblehead police log. Swampscott police assisted. Three people were extricated, treated at the scene and transported to Salem Hospital, the log states. The occupants were: Cameron Sylvester of Marblehead; Maxwell Hill of Lynn; and Michael Johnson of Mattapan. Police called in a K-9 unit to assist. The driver may have fled, the log states. Winthrop Man Faces OUI and Driving to Endanger Charges

The man's pick-up allegedly struck a utility pole and the impact knocked off the vehicle's front driver's wheel.

  A Winthrop man is due back in Lynn District Court next month on charges that he was driving under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger and in possession of methadone. Salvatore Lamattina, 44, of 80 Somerset Ave. Winthrop, was arrested April 25, and arraigned the next day. He was released on personal recognizance bail. On April 25, about 6:15 pm, police responded to a report of a pick-up hitting a utility pole near 88 Stetson Ave., according to the court report. A Swampscott police officer noted the pick-up had apparently crossed the road and struck the pole, the court report states. Lamattina was also cited for a marked lanes violation. UPDATED: OUI Arrest in Two-Car Crash on Essex Bridge

Police charged the driver of one of the vehicles with OUI. Three people were injured though none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.

  Three people were injured including a young child when a car and a cab crashed on the Essex Street Bridge shortly before 1 pm Wednesday. Police charged Dana Hartigan, 47, of 32 Everett St., Lynn with operating under the influence of liquor, three counts of possession of a Class E substance, marked lanes violation, unlicensed operation and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. The injuries did not appear to be life threatening but the three of them were transported to Salem Hospital, said Swampscott fire Capt. Kevin Thompson. One of the injured was a boy, who was about 5- years old and quite shaken up by the incident, the fire captain said. UPDATED: Accident on Essex Street

Injuries to the operator of the vehicle did not appear to be life-threatening.

  An elderly man involved in a single-car accident on Essex Street Tuesday afternoon received injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening, said Swampscott fire Lt. Sheila Scranton. The man's vehicle was on its roof near Essex Terrace and Burrill Street when firefighters arrived to the scene shortly before 4 pm. Passersby had already helped the man from the vehicle and he was conscious and alert, the lieutenant said. The man was concerned for the well being of his dog, likely a terrier mix, that was in the vehicle, she said. The dog was shaking but otherwise appeared to be OK when firefighters left the pet in the care of an animal control officer, the lieutenant said. The driver was transported to Salem Hospital.

Three-Car Crash Leads to Arrest

Police arrested a Boston man Monday morning for trying to flee the scene of a Humphrey Street accident.

  Police arrested a Boston man as he tried to flee the scene of a three-car accident Monday at 10:37 am, said Swampscott police Det. Tim Cassidy.  Taken into custody was James Warren, 42, of 107 Park Drive in Boston, police said. Warren was driving the vehicle that struck the others. An occupant in one of the vehicles received injuries that were not life threatening, police said. The injured person was transported to North Shore Medical Center in Lynn for treatment, police said. The accident took place at 6 Humphrey St., near the Lynn line. Warren is also suspected of striking vehicles in Lynn and a house along Lynn Shore Drive, police said.
