That would be Walter Brennan, according to wiki.answers.com The Massachusetts Film Office lists the roles and awards that the Son of Swampscott won. He also starred in television shows including the Real McCoys and The Guns of Will Sonnet. Here's another Swampscott connection: Swampscott High graduate Bryan Buckley is up for an Oscar in the Best Live-Action Short Film category.

One of the nominees is Swampscott High graduate Bryan Buckley nominated for his 17-minute film Asad, about a child refugee from a war-torn fishing village in Somalia, according to Cinemasalem.com Buckley is best known for his commercials, especially Super Bowl commercials, of which he has directed over 40. He is following up Asad, his first narrative film, by directing his first feature film, “Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus,” starring Reese Witherspoon, according to a Lynn Item article. Swampscott has a few connections to the Oscars. One is the host, who shot part of his movie in Swampscott.
The Academy Awards are scheduled for Feb. 24 at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center. It will be televised live domestically on ABC and in more than 225 foreign countries. The host will be Seth MacFarlane who directed, co-produced, co-wrote and starred (his voice) in the movie Ted. Ted, a movie starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis, has some major Swampscott connections. For one, the main character, John, played by Wahlberg, was born in Swampscott, according to the movie plot. And as many Swampscott people will remember — a major scene in the film was shot inside and outside a Swampscott home on Atlantic Avenue back in May of 2011. Academy Awards night and Oscar acceptance speeches will get some local people thinking about Swampscott's shoulder brush with Hollywood in 2011. Film crews were in town the first week in May shooting scenes for the movie Ted starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis. The movie remains in post production and scenes are not finalized, according to an NBCUniversal spokesman. The movie is set for release July 13, he said.
