Stanley Kids Learn About Native Americans

The school is grateful that its PTO Cultural Arts Committee brought this program to Stanley once again. The students in grade 2 had a terrific time. Swampscott Student's Logo is Right Call for Basketball Referees

Here is one of five things to know about Swampscott today: Swampscott High junior Dan Woolhiser created the winning logo for 400 men and women on Board 130 of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials.

1) Newsbit of the Day: Board 130 of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) conducted a logo contest in partnership with the fine arts department at Swampscott High School. Board 130 is comprised of more than 400 men and women who officiate youth, high school and collegiate basketball throughout the region. There was a need to develop a logo for marketing, advertisement and potential merchandising purposes. Teacher Anita Balliro coordinated student participation at Swampscott High. “The assignment was not an easy one for the group, as it contained many moving parts," she said. Forty Steps Dance Coming in Two Weeks

Here is one of five things to know in Swampscott today: Forty Steps Dance to perform June 1.

1) Newsbit of the Day: Laura Smith of the Swampscott Cultural Council reports: Forty Steps Dance will perform and preview new works—and do the salsa with the public at its second annual fundraiser on June 1. The fun begins at 7:30 in the studio, the Serenity Room of the Nahant Community Center on Valley Road, where guests will be treated to catered hors d’oeuvres and beverages. Once seated, they’ll witness a preview of “Night Creatures,” the second choreography in the new “Creatures” piece created by Artistic Director Sallee Slagle, who founded Forty Steps Dance 20 years ago. School Committee Elects Leaders

Here is one of five things to know about Swampscott today: there's a new chairman and vice chairman on the School Committee, and one of the new members was appointed to the School Building Committee.

  1) Newsbit of the Day: The School Committee elected Rick Kraft chairman and Ted Delano vice-chairman.   Also, the committee made the following subcommittee assignments: The committee also voted to support the superintendent’s appointment of Carin Marshall to the Schools Building Committee (working with the Mass. Music, Art and Garden Events at High School

Here is one of five things to know about Swampscott today: music and art programs will showcase students tonight at 7.

1) Newsbit of the Day: There's a spring concert and art show at the high school tonight at 7 in the auditorium. The music director said there will be performances by the concert band, percussion ensemble, chorus and North Shore Voices. Art is hanging in the foyer, just outsde the auditorium. Free Tonight: Learn to Plant Perennials That Yield Food

Naturalist and landscaper John Root will be at the high school for a presentation on edible perennial gardening and landscaping.
