The Swampscott Cemetery
Essex St & Danvers Rd, Swampscott, MA 01907

The town's cemetery is located between Essex Street and Danvers Road and includes monuments and memorials and burialMore plots for soldiers killed in wars at least as far back as the American Revolution.

Buried in the cemetery are members of the crew from the shipwrecked bark Tedesco. The ship, hauling wine and salt from Spain, sank during a fierce storm in January 1857, striking Long Rock near Galloupe's Point. All 12 aboard the bark perished.

The cemetery was consecrated, Sept. 16, 1854, according to the History of Essex County.

The Swampscott Public Works Department maintains the cemetery, which includes well-established trees, and shrubs and flower gardens.

Lanes, avenues and paths wind and climb through the gated cemetery.
