Swampscott Pair Charged With B&E at Humphrey Street Residence

The man and woman allegedly broke into a fellow resident's apartment and removed a convection oven and other items.

  Two Swampscott residents are scheduled for hearings in July in Lynn District Court on breaking and entering charges. Robin Kelly, 48, and John Furey, 45, both of 246 Humphrey St., Floor 3, were arrested by Swampscott police on May 7, and charged with breaking and entering in the night for a felony and receiving stolen property over $250, police said. They were arraigned the following day in Lynn District Court and released on personal recognizance bail. The pair allegedly entered a second-floor apartment in the same complex where they live and removed items including clothing and a convection oven, according to court documents. Swampscott Firefighter and Officer to Plate Runs for Veterans

The public safety officers are running in Sunday's Run-Walk to Home Base, ending at Fenway Park.

Here's how the firefighter and police officer found out they both would be crossing home plate at Fenway Park on Sunday: About two months ago officer Candace Doyle asked firefighter Richard Blake to donate to her Run-Walk to Home Base fundraiser for veterans. The firefighter told her he was also running in the fundraiser for veterans who have returned from Iraq or Afghanistan with combat stress or brain injuries. The firefighter and police officer will be among 4,000 runners and walkers in Sunday's event.   Each of the participants will raise at least $1,000 to provide clinical care for the vets, support for their families and research to prevent these kinds of injuries and improve treatments. Swampscott Man Charged With Beating Former Business Partner

The suspect's lawyer says his client, a retired corrections officer, acted in self defense and will seek charges against the other party.

  A Swampscott man faces a slew of charges including assault with intent to kill for allegedly attacking a former business partner on May 2, outside a Revere Beach Boulevard restaurant. Kenneth Michaud, 40, of Swampscott, pleaded not guilty Monday in Suffolk County District Court to mayhem, assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and the intent to kill charges. Michaud was released on personal recognizance by the judge, and the defendant is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on June 12. The defendant's lawyer, Gary Zerola, said the allegations are "absolutely false" and his client was attacked by the "so-called victim." Swampscott Firefighters Learn How to Best Rescue Each Other

The two-days of rapid intervention training at the Swampscott Fire Station showed crews how to get themselves and each other clear of danger.

  The high-pitched alarm signals one of their own is in peril. On Monday at the Swampscott Fire Station, distress alarms sounded from firefighters during rapid intervention training, lessons in rescuing each other. Swampscott and Marblehead firefighters in turnout gear and masks blackened by wax paper swam a sea of dangling wires. They carried fellow firefighters down a 24-foot ladder.  And they lifted, slid and squeezed firefighters through narrow openings. The state-funded lessons came from veteran firefighters visiting from the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Stow. Winthrop Man Faces OUI and Driving to Endanger Charges

The man's pick-up allegedly struck a utility pole and the impact knocked off the vehicle's front driver's wheel.

  A Winthrop man is due back in Lynn District Court next month on charges that he was driving under the influence of alcohol, driving to endanger and in possession of methadone. Salvatore Lamattina, 44, of 80 Somerset Ave. Winthrop, was arrested April 25, and arraigned the next day. He was released on personal recognizance bail. On April 25, about 6:15 pm, police responded to a report of a pick-up hitting a utility pole near 88 Stetson Ave., according to the court report. A Swampscott police officer noted the pick-up had apparently crossed the road and struck the pole, the court report states. Lamattina was also cited for a marked lanes violation. Updated: Lynn Man Killed After Train Collision Behind Salem Police Station

  A man was reportedly hit and killed by a train on the tracks behind the Salem Police Station in the Mill Hill area Sunday morning, according to scanner reports. The victim was a 28-year-old man from Lynn,Boston.com reported Sunday afternoon. His name has not yet been released, pending notification of family Shortly after 9:30 p.m. the Salem Police confirmed the collision was fatal. The accident occurred at approximately 8 a.m. Passenger Marsha Finkelstein said the accident was "shortly after it [the train] putlled out of the Salem Depot...The train stopped on the other side of the tunnel." Marblehead Man Faces OUI Charges and More

The 55-year-old is due back in court later this month for allegedly driving drunk and failing to stop for police.

  A 55-year-old Marblehead man is scheduled for a Lynn District Court hearing May 25, on charges including driving under the influence and failure to stop for police. Aleksandr Zaharov, 4 Bristol Road, was arraigned April 27, on the OUI, failure to stop and negligent operation charges from the day before. Swampscott Police received a report before 1 p.m. on April 26, about a gray pick-up truck that was allegedly all over the road and almost hit a third party — described by police as a landscaper, according to the court report. Det. James Schultz was working a police detail on Humphrey Street when he saw a pick-up that matched the description of the erratic vehicle, the report states.
