Obituary: John E. Toomey

The Swampscott police chief was born Aug. 19, 1944, and he died Feb. 1, 2013. Visiting hours are on Tuesday from 4 PM to 8 PM. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013 at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m.

Toomey, retired Swampscott Police Chief and attorney, 68 years of Nahant, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013 at Massachusetts General Hospital. He was the former husband of the late Pamela M. (Carlson) Toomey. John was born in Boston, the son of the late Joseph P. and Florence E. (Lyons) Toomey. He was raised in Charlestown attended St. Mary's School in Charlestown, Boston English , Billerica High School and graduated from Lynn English High School. John received his Associates and Bachelors Degrees in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University. Rex Trailer Dies at 84; Share Your Boomtown Memories, Photos

Boston TV icon hosted a children's show in the 1950s-1970s. Do you have any photos from back in the day?

Rex Trailer, a Boston TV icon who had been recovering from pneumonia recently, has died. Trailer hosted “Boomtown,” a children’s show with a Western theme on WBZ-TV from 1956-1974.  How did a Western cowboy make his mark in Boston? According to Wikipedia, his corporate overlords gave him a choice of Cleveland or Boston. But he's remembered for more than his cowboy get-up.The Boston Globe wrote in an editorial last year: Kids adored Trailer’s rodeo tricks. But mostly they adored him for his consistent kindness and competence. He also inspired a local cowpunk band to name itself "Tex Railer's Doomtown." Trailer was 84. It was a weekend workshop so the kids had back to back classes scheduled on various subjects. Obituary: Thomas William McGee

Thomas was born in Lynn, MA on May 24, 1924, and died Dec, 21, 2012. A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday Jan. 5, 2013 at St, Mary's Church, 8 South Common Street, Lynn, MA. at 11 a.m.

Thomas William McGee 88, of Swampscott formerly of Lynn died Friday December 21st after a long struggle with Alzheimer's at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Ma.  He was the son of the late Thomas A .McGee and Mary A. (O'Shea) McGee. A World War II veteran he served in the 4th Marine Division seeing action at Saipan, Tinan and Iwo Jima.  He served the people of Lynn as a city councilor, state representative and as the longest serving speaker in the history of the Massachusetts House of Representatives.  He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Grace ( DeClerico). Beloved teacher, wife, mother and grandmother Lillian (Swartz) Pearlstein passed away Sept. 21, 2012 at the age of 90. Visiting hours will be at the home of Cara and Michael Massey through Sunday evening and also on Monday from 11 a.m. - 8 p.m.

  Lillian (Swartz) Pearlstein, 90, of Swampscott, Massachusetts passed away on September 21, 2012.  She was the daughter of Ida and Morris Swartz.  She was also the devoted wife of the late John Pearlstein with whom she shared 46 years of marriage. Mrs. Pearlstein spent her early years in Gloucester, Massachusetts, later attending schools in Malden and graduating from Boston University undergraduate and graduate schools, with degrees in foreign languages.  She was a beloved teacher of Latin, French and Spanish as well as mathematics.  Her career included teaching at Tewksbury High School, Beebe Junior High School in Malden, Hillel Academy in Swampscott, Lynn English High School and Eastern Junior High in Lynn.  After formally retiring in …

  David Patrick Whelan, Jr., age 54, of Swampscott, died September 1, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer.  Born January 23, 1958, in Malden, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late David Patrick and Mary (Dunn) Whelan. Besides his wife Jean, he is survived by his two children, Hilary and Trevor, both of Swampscott, and his siblings, Robert M. Whelan of Salem, Barbara McDonough of Billerica and John Lingaitis of Beverly.  He also leaves several nieces and nephews.  He was raised in Swampscott, graduating from Swampscott High School in 1975 and from Merrimack College in 1980.   John M. “Johnny” Pesky, age 93, of Swampscott, formerly of Lynn and Portland, OR, died Monday, Aug. 13 after a brief illness. Born John Michael Paveskovich Feb. 27, 1919 in Portland, Oregon, son of Croatian immigrants, Jakov and Marija (Bajama) Paveskovich. (note: Major League Baseball has Johnny’s date of birth as Sept. 27, 1919, an adjustment made by Johnny in 1939 to meet baseball scouting age limits for tryouts). He was raised in Portland, graduating from high school in 1939 where he was a standout athlete in both hockey and baseball, but ultimately chose baseball and the Red Sox for his career.   Age 68, of Swampscott, passed away peacefully on May 27, after a brief illness. She is survived by her beloved husband of 28 years, John R. Sherman, a retired law professor, and by her brother, Thomas M. Davis, a ret. Fire captain of Peabody and her sister, Francine Harryman and her husband Thomas of Muskeegan, Michigan.
