With apologies in advance to the many affluent people who are incredibly generous, I too shared anRead More experience similar to Keltner's. Last year I helped out with a "Sponsor A Child" campaign through a program offered by Save the Children (www.savethechildren.org). The campaign was conducted in a large regional mall in the Boston area for a three month period with a goal of signing up sponsors for children living in extreme poverty conditions throughout the country and around the world. The biggest “aha” moment for me was that there are an incredibly high percentage of students and young adults in the 18-34 age group interested in helping others who are less fortunate than themselves; even when many of them are barely scraping by themselves. It was a great experience that confirmed my faith in the goodness of people from all walks of life.
