Monday Essentials: School Daze, Energy Efficiency and History

Items in the coming week in Swampscott.

The coming week includes a wide-ranging presentation on the college entrance experience and a meeting of the Renewable Energy Committee. For a complete list of meetings see the town website.

Monday

The Swampscott Renewable Energy Committee meets at 7 p.m. at Swampscott High. Agenda items include a presentation on energy use at the high school and a Green Communities update.

Tuesday

The Earth Removal Advisory Board meets at 7 in the Selectmen's Rom at Town Hall. The agenda itemis a discussion of a complaint regarding dust.

The Swampscott Historical Commission meets at 7:30 p.m. in the second floor conference room at Town Hall. The commission will hear updates on the local historic district initiative, and from the ZBA and Open Space Committee.  To see the agenda visit the town website.

Wednesday

School Daze: Navigating the College Entrance Experience (at the Swampscott library).

High school students and parents are invited to a program at 6:30 p.m. at the Swampscott Public Library to learn about applying to colleges. Emily Barnum and Jennifer Magary from Swampscott High School Guidance Department will give an overview of the process and explain the role of the Guidance Department.
Joanna Ganci, Swampscott High School English Department chair, will give advice on writing essays & getting teacher recommendations.
Yessika Hurtado, Educational Adviser at Lynn Educational Opportunity Center, will speak about FAFSA, PROFILE, and financial aid.
Sherry Brass, Director of Pre-College Programs at Kaplan Test Prep, will cover standardized testing.
