YMCA Gala a Huge Success

The YMCA's largest annual fundraiser was a huge success this year - thanks to local donors and volunteers!

A couple of weeks ago, we wrote about a local mom, Michelle Reed, who has helped to raise thousands of dollars in donations for the Lynch/van Otterloo in preparation for the Gala fundraiser.

Reed’s daughter, Natalie, is 9 years old and spends a few days a week here in swim lessons at the Y. Natalie has a condition called SCN1A, a mutation so rare that she is one of only six in the United States identified with the condition.

“I really love the Y, and it’s a place my family cherishes,” said Reed. “From the first moment I walked through the door, everyone has welcomed me warmly and pointed me in the right direction to find classes and help for my daughter.”

The annual Gala was last Saturday, Oct. 29. During this fundraiser, we set many records, and this could not have been possible without the generous support of many local donors and volunteers.

The Gala was attended by more than 500 people despite the surprise snowstorm.

We had a record number of business sponsors supporting this event, and we had a record number of auction items donated by local businesses to support our Y.

We had a record number of camperships given ($115,000) during our live auction. We had a record amount of money raised from our event overall to support the Y of the North Shore.

The most amazing thing about the Gala, however, was the feeling throughout the event. It felt like every single person there was rooting for our Y and really understood the impact that we are trying to make in youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. It felt that everyone there wanted to be a part of the solution and they were equally committed to our cause.

A big THANK YOU is owed to many of the volunteers and businesses throughout the area, for time and donations given so generously and freely. This would not be possible without you, and your generosity allows many children and families to continue receiving support from the Y.

Thank you to all the local businesses and volunteers who helped to make this night such a huge success, and thank you for helping us continue supporting those in need.
