Bulky Rigid Plastics Recycling

Swampscott residents can now recycle bulky rigid plastics. Here's how!

The Swampscott Health Department was recently awarded a grant by the Department of Environmental Protection for the collection and recycling of bulky rigid plastics. The funding will allow residents of three communities, including Swampscott, Salem and Marblehead, to drop off rigid plastics at The Newark Group facility at 53 Jefferson Avenue in Salem free of charge.

The kick-off for the program will begin on Saturday Jan. 7, 2012 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. After the kick-off, items will be accepted during regular business hours.

Bulky rigid plastics include children’s slides and other play equipment, plastic shelving, coolers, laundry baskets, buckets, barrels, bins, storage totes, hard plastic toys, flower pots, rigid plastic outdoor furniture, etc. These materials have become a recognized commodity in the plastics recycling market.
