Pumpkin Products Return To Your Favorite Eateries

Autumn is in full swing when the pumpkins come out. November is upon us this week and one particular flavor is appearing in many restaurants throughout New England. “Pumpkin Spice” is the unofficial flavor of Fall.

A delicious blend of cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg, Pumpkin Spice flavoring has managed to seep into our lives whether you are a fan or not. There are pumpkin coffees, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin muffins, doughnuts, and breads! If you think the list stops there, then you are certainly wrong. Treadwell’s Ice Cream in Peabody is offering both pumpkin ice cream and pumpkin oreo ice cream.

Pumpkin beverages and bakery items return to Dunkin’ Donuts for what Public Relations Manager, Lindsay Harrington, said is “the brand’s most anticipated time of the year.” The pumpkin coffee, latte, munchkin, donut, and muffin are all coming back to the seasonal menu. The company is excited to offer two new items which include the Pumpkin Pie Donut and Frozen Pumpkin Coffee Coolatta.

The Dunkin’ Donuts website describes the Pumpkin Pie Donut as a “buttercreme-filled yeast shell, frosted with white dipping icing and sprinkled with graham cracker topping” (Dunkin’ Donuts website). Senior Kelsey Lombard thinks that “in general, pumpkin flavoring gets a little over done every fall.” Lombard enjoys Dunkin’s pumpkin muffin, but on the contrary said, “ as far as pumpkin flavoring in drinks...can't stand it! I just stick to my regular cream & sugar, regardless of the season.”

Perhaps readers would like to try Starbucks’ famous Pumpkin Spice Latte, or PSL. Senior Kyra Deligiannides said, “The flavors of pumpkin spice surround my tongue like I’m drowning in deliciousness. It’s like pumpkin pie in a cup!” This year is the 10th anniversary for the drink that has millions of avid Starbucks seasonal fans tweeting about their drinks with the hashtag, #PSL. The drink is loved by so many that Starbucks offered 600 bedazzled PSL cups for $150 to celebrate the 10th anniversary. Lisa Fleisher from the Wall Street Journal reported that Starbucks sold out in 100 minutes.

With similar Fall spirit, Panera offers pumpkin muffins, muffies (muffin tops), and pumpkin spice lattes. Perhaps more than any other flavor, pumpkin evokes feelings of nostalgia and comfort remarks Harrington.
