New Sheriff In Town

The 2013-2014 school year at Swampscott High School started off with some big changes. New principle Ed Rozmiarek, the former principal of Lowell High school, has brought new policy changes as well as a new attitude to the students and faculty of the high school. Rozmiarek has taken the position formally held by Mr. Layne Millington who, to say the least, was very lenient with students and allowed many freedoms. However; during 2012-2013 school year, many faculty members agreed that students were abusing their freedoms. This has caused Rozmiarek to being to become stricter with the policies, new changes with open-campus privileges, the infamous “Senior Tunnel,” and as well as enforcing the dress code. Health teacher, Mr. Buck Harris, who is an advocate for student’s voices, said that Rozmiarek, so far is a good principal. “Too early to tell, but he is a good guy and it seems likes this is the job he wants,” Harris said. He believes that Rozmiarek is going to be the principal at Swampscott for a while and that, with time; students will grow to like him. His thoughts, specifically, on the Senior Tunnel, were that he believes that it was getting out of hand and that it needed to be changed. Junior, Sam Rizzo, expressed her opinion about the new principal and policy changes for the school year. “There have been both positive and negative changes this year. Changes such as increasing the graduation requirement make the school look more hardworking,” Rizzo said. She agrees that Rozmiarek is a good principal so far and that the students will grow to like him. New to the school this year, many new students say that they already like Rozmiarek and the new changes will bring a positive attitude to the school. During an interview with Mr. Rozmiarek, he said that he loves working with the Swampscott community. He said that compared to Lowell, mostly everything is the same. “Student concerns are student concerns,” said Rozmiarek, “Deep down everyone just wants the best education.” Rozmiarek wants to bring a sense of stability to the school and hopes to keep the school heading in the right direction. - See more at: http://shsblueprint.org/418/news/new-sheriff-in-town/#sthash.TypSNfs3.dpuf
