It was approved on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from Great Britain.

In Swampscott, celebrations and activities today include the Shaw Estate Horribles Parade getting organized about 9:15 on the corner of Aspen and Arbutus Road for judging, a tour of the Sir John Humphrey House on Paradise Road from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  and the town footraces at Phillips Park on the field hockey field at 11 a.m.

  • Grocery Stores
  • Liquor stores
  • Other businesses at owner's discretion

 CLOSED:

  • Banks
  • Town Offices
Trash Pickup
Jeff Vaughan of the Swampscott Health Department tells us that due to the July 4th holiday curbside collection of trash and recycling will be delayed by one day for Thursday and Friday.  If your regular collection is Thursday, it will be on Friday this week.  Friday's collection will be on Saturday.
