How to Pick the Perfect Tomato

We talk to a lifelong farmer who comes from Romania for the answer.

Look for bright red and crack-free tomatoes and you'll have some sweet pickings, says Marin Chiths of Cider Hill Farm in Amesbury.

Marin, a lifelong farmer, said tomatoes will be available right through the end of fall.

Tomatoes were late this year but have come into their own, say market farmers.

Marin grew up on a farm in Romania and is now a mainstay at the Marblehead Farmers' Market.

The Marblehead market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon through Nov. 23,  at Marblehead Veterans Middle School, 217 Pleasant St. Enter from Vine Street.

Get your tomatoes at the Swampscott Farmers' Market on Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market is in the Swampscott High parking lot.
