High School TV Camp to Connect Kids

Swampscott High School TV production and media literacy teacher Tom Reid and several of his students will present the class from July 22-26.

Connect to television media by learning basics and connect with students as you learn together at the new summer TV Camp at Swampscott High School.
The Recreation Department program, taught by Swampscott High School TV Production and Media Literacy Teacher Tom Reid and several of his students, will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., July 22-26.
The camp is for students in grades 6-12, and offers hands-on lessons in camera operations, tripod use, editing, as well as lessons in interviewing and writing and some work with lighting and audio.
The class will be brought to you by some of the same crew members who produce programming for high school news, meeting, sports and auction coverage.
Seniors Chris Thomsen and Ashling Quinn, and graduate Casey Cann will serve as mentors and help Tom Reid teach the class.
Ashling has an opening activity planned that involves connecting cables.
Chris has ideas about connecting the class to the high school's introduction to media class.
Casey, who works in film, will connect his experiences in the work-a-day world to lessons in the classroom.
The studio has high-end equipment and expertise to help students make a wealth of connections.
They will connect with the technology, with the cameras, with music and writing and with each other.
Ultimately they will learn to connect to the larger world.
The class will divide into groups that may include friends or students with like abilities.
