Swampscott Fireworks

The town's fireworks show with Lynn will start at dusk on Wednesday, July 3, at King's Beach.

  •  No parking on both sides of Humphrey Street from the Red Rock Bistro to the Lynn line from 5 pm until 11 pm, police said. These areas will be clearly marked the day before the fireworks
  • Humphrey Street will be closed from Redington Street to Lynn Shore Drive beginning at 730 pm and lasting until approximately 11 pm, police said
  • Police would also like to discourage people from bringing backpacks and or coolers into this area, police said
  • The consumption of alcohol in this area is prohibited and will be strictly enforced, police said
  • The department will have additional security including undercover officers

Town Races

The Recreation Department will host its annual town foot races for kids at Phillips Park on Thursday, July 4 at 11 a.m.

The events range from 50- to 100-yard dashes depending on the age group. It's a hometown tradition and fun.

The Shaw Estate Horribles Parade

Rain or shine, The Shaw Improvement Association will once again be sponsoring the annual Shaw Estate 4th of July Horribles Parade, now in its 70th year!

The parade is open to residents who live on the streets to the left and right of Forest Avenue, which was once part of the Shaw Estate.

Participants should arrive promptly at 9:15 AM on the corner of Aspen and Arbutus Road for judging.  

The parade starts at 9:30 AM and will be led by a Swampscott Police Car and Fire Truck down Aspen Rd., across Forest Ave. and around Lexington Circle. Categories include horribles, bikes/trikes, rollerblades/scooters/boards, doll carriages, pets and floats.  

Refreshments, prizes and awards will be given to ALL participants at the end.

Thursday, July 4

Humphrey House Tours

The Sir John Humphrey House, 99 Paradise Road, will be open from 10 a.m to 12 p.m. on Thursday, July Fourth.

Stop by for a tour, given by members of the Swampscott Historical Society.

A few of the historical treasures on display are a “Brown Bess” Revolutionary War rifle, a portrait of Civil War Colonel George Stetson whose large estate was near Stetson Avenue and an early Edison record player with six sets of earphones.
