Scott Brown: Fails to Help Middle Class Tax Cut

MA Sen. Scott Brown tries to explain his vote against middle class tax cut

Sen. Scott Brown, (R-MA), voted against a procedural motion that would have enabled a vote on the  “Middle Class Tax Cut Act of 2011. “

This bill would have extended the current reductions in the payroll withholding tax for Social Security. This is also known as “FICA.” With no action being considered to prevent this reduction from continuing, Mr. and Ms Taxpayer need to prepare themselves for an increase in their payroll taxes from the present lowered amount back to that amount from prior to 2010.

The bill would have increased the reduction from the current 2% to 3.1%. Included in the bill were various tax increases for those making over $1M. and other proposals, most of which also applied only to those making over $1M.

These increases were placed into the bill to pay for the reductions without affecting current spending.

According to Think Progress “(Sen) Brown declared…that he favors extending a payroll tax cut without finding a way to make up for the lost revenue.”

One must ask the Senator, if so, why hasn’t he proposed such a bill to the Senate? Or offered same as an amendment to the bill?

The Senator must be aware that actions speak louder than words.
