Would Pats Fever Equal Bruins Passion?

Two Swampscott Olympia store employees have a different opinion.

Customers' mad rush for Bruins hats and shirts last June after the team's is fresh in Nancy Swecker's mind.

The Sports employee thinks the push for Patriots gear at the Swampscott Mall store will be just as frantic on Monday if Tom Brady's troops prevail on Sunday.

Store Manager Chris Moreno isn't so sure. It will be tough to match the passion for Bruins commemorative items that he saw in June while working at the Gloucester Olympia Sports location.

"I think it'll still be crazy but the Bruins hadn't won for a long time and the Patriots have won (more recently)," he said.

Nancy Swecker said people were trying to force their way into the store in June to get the white hats that said the Bruins were champs.

The former Bishop Fenwick ice hockey cheerleader expects the same on Monday if the Patriots win.

Some people are already asking what color the hats will be if the Pats win — white or blue?, the employees said.

Regardless of the color, the store will open as soon as the hats arrive and are ready for sale, the store manager said.

He's confident of victory.

"When we beat the Giants it's going to feel really good," he said.
