2) Newsbit of the Day: Will the Red Sox fool us in 2013?

A year ago Fenway celebrated 100 years. They started the season with a breach between manager and players that worsened until they sank, Titanic-like, to the bottom of the American League East.

Still, going into last season, there was hope that star players David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Jon Lester, Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez could right the ship after it crashed in September 2011.

Hope was denied. The Sox went 69-93. But not before they jettisoned three unhappy stars, sending them to LA.

The Red Sox replaced the unhappy three with a new crew.

They are high-energy, team guys whose stats don't bowl you over.

Among them are catcher David Ross and outfielders Jonny Gomes and Shane Victorino.

David Ortiz won't be playing anytime soon but the team has young talent, remanants of the leadership that buoyed World Series wins. Fans hope the pitching staff will perform and stay healthy.

They also have a new manager, John Farrell, a key from those halcyon, pre-2011, Terry Francona years.

Sometimes baseball teams emerge unexepectedly.

Expectations in 2013 are not high.

What do you think?
