Swampscott U-10 Girls Soccer Players Kicking Up Their Skills

The girls took on some elite soccer teams this fall.

These Swampscott girls are continuing to develop their soccer skills, to learn to play as a team and to enjoy success.

They attend Clarke, Hadley, Stanley and Tower Schools and are members of two U-10 soccer teams — a Swampscott Youth Soccer Association team and the SF Vikings Soccer Club out of Salem MA.

Previously they won the U8 Topsfield Indoor Soccer Championship, the U10 Girls Danvers Indoor Sports Indoor soccer championship and went undefeated in the Danvers U10 Memorial Day Soccer Tournament.

Coach Shane McCarran said the girls have done so well at the town level in the past that the coaches decided this year to step it up and join the SF Vikings Soccer Club out of Salem MA.

The club team participates in the MAPLE League and the competition is at a high level, the coach said.

The girls' outdoor season’s wrapped up this past weekend.

The SYSA town team went 8-0 with an impressive 38 goals for and only 1 goal against, the coach said.

And the SF Vikings Team went 2-1-6, which, overall, was a successful first campaign playing in the big leagues, he said.

The club team traveled to distant fields and played elite competion.

Their first game was in Springfield against one of the best girls soccer clubs in the state, the coach said.

"We ended up winning 3-1 and at that point we knew we had made the right decision," he said. "After that we went on to beat the Scorpions SC (another perennial power-house in girls club soccer) and then we tied 6 games and lost 1."

The coach said the play was a great learning experience for the girls and they have all improved tremendously.

"These girls have already made a name for themselves in the local soccer community, but now they are starting to turn heads at the state level," he said.
