The Big Blue baseball team won a thriller Saturday night at home against Bishop Fenwick, scoring two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh for a 3-2 non-conference win.

The Crusaders (12-6) from the Catholic Conference came into Saturday night’s game after pinning a 2-1 loss on NEC power Danvers.

With Swampscott (10-5) trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the seventh inning, Robert Serino roared home to tie the score at 2-2, sending the Swampscott partisans into a frenzy.

Fenwick coach Russ Steeves barked out instructions to his pitcher, senior co-captain Mike LaChance, while junior Mike Walsh came up to hit.

Walsh got into the batter’s box and punched a single into left field scoring Frank Legere from second with the winning run. Legere scored standing up, and the Big Blue players stormed onto the field to congratulate, Legere, Walsh and winning pitcher Sean O’Brien.

The win over the Crusaders puts the home winning streak at seven straight games.

“It was an exciting win, for sure,” Big Blue coach T. J. Baril said. “This team is never out of a game, they take pride in their ability to battle back.”

“That’s playoff type baseball right there,” Fenwick coach Russ Steeves said after the game. “This is the type of game we’re going to be playing for the next few weeks heading into the playoffs.”

The Blue travel to Winthrop Monday to play the Vikings, a 4 p.m. start. On Wednesday Marblehead comes to town to play under the lights at 6:30.
