The 116th running of the 26.2-mile Boston Marathon will be remembered as the hot one.
The fastest finisher from Swampscott, Kevin Dennehy, said he ran a faster race last year but may have run a better race this year.

"It's a little disappointing that the conditions conspired against the runners to produce times that did not reflect training and may not allow us to qualify for next year," he said. "The heat was not for the fainthearted."
More than 26,000 runners and 500,000 spectators were expected.

But many runners likely used discretion and chose to run another day rather than risk serious consequences from the heat and dehydration.
