Swampscott Softball Advances in MIAA Tournament

Swampscott High School's softball team defeated fifth-seeded North Reading 2-1 in the first round of the MIAA state tournament Thursday.

The win means the team will move on to take on the four seed, Arlington Catholic at 4 p.m. on June 2. 

Swampscott, ranked 12th in the North Division 2 tournament, finished the regular season at 11-9. Arlington Catholic, which defeated Marblehead 3-1 in the first round, finished the season at 16-4.
