Swampscott LL 12's Take Diamond Next vs Nahant Friday

Swampscott 12’s Drop Extra Inning Heartbreaker

On Sunday at MacArthur Park in Peabody, the Swampscott 12’s battled Salem in 95 degree heat for seven innings of back and forth play. Unfortunately, the boys in blue came up short in extra innings – falling 6 - 4 to Salem.

Swampscott hurler Jake McIntire pitched outstanding, allowing just 1 run (a solo HR) through 5 2/3 innings. McIntire was supported all game by great defensive play from teammates Max Pegnato (SS), Jake Scanlon (LF), Jack Leahy (CF) and Jonathan Oriakhi (1B).

With Swampscott trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the 5th, power slugger Dylan January hit a 2 run homer giving the hometown boys a 2-1 lead heading into the 6th inning. But Salem would not go quietly, ripping off two well-placed hits to tie the game 2-2. Swampscott came right back in the bottom of the sixth loading the bases with a hit from Chris Legere and a couple of walks -- but couldn't bring the winning run home. With two outs in the top of the 7th, Swampscott was hoping to get out of a bases loaded jam, however Salem’s Baez stroked a grand slam to put them up 6 – 2. Once again, the Swampscott 12’s tried to mount a come-back with back to back hits by Graham Inzana and Russell Hopkins – adding two more runs before Salem closed the door.

Next game is against a familiar opponent, Nahant, on Friday night at 7:30 in Swampscott.  Come cheer on the home team.
