Swampscott Little League Baseball Tryouts A Big Hit

Yesterday, Swampscott Little League held their 2012 baseball tryouts for the 8-12 year old boys playing ball this season in the Instructional, Farm, Minors and Majors divisions.

The day began at 8 a.m. and continued until 3:30 pm with over 130 boys, ages 8-12, coming through the High School gym throughout the day for the 2012 Little League Baseball tryouts.

With the help of Mike Giardi and his experienced Hit Zone staff, the boys went through various stations of hitting, infield, outfield and throwing drills as the managers and coaching staffs of the various teams looked on to evaluate the players.

"It was great to see baseball being played again," commented Scott Sagan, president of Swampscott Little League.

Player Agent Bob Biletch, who organized the tryouts, had the following to say:

"Given the amount of effort that goes into organizing and running a tryout for 130 children, I am extremely pleased that everything went very smoothly.  We started each group by telling the kids that we require them to smile and enjoy themselves, and within minutes every child was having a great time playing baseball.  Mike Giardi and his crew have been an invaluable partner in running the tryouts and making the day meaningful and fun for kids.  Thanks to all the coaches who volunteered their time, Mike Giardi and the Hit Zone staff, and the SHS players who helped out.  We have a great Little League baseball program thanks to the efforts of many volunteers."

With the warm temperatures we have been experiencing, spring is definitely in the air, and yesterday, based on the energy and excitement in the High School gym, you would certainly agree that baseball is in the air, too.
