Swampscott Lacrosse Drops Home Opener

The Big Blue boys team lost handily, 18-6, to a strong Beverly squad.

At Swampscott’s Blocksidge Field, the on the top team in the Northeast Conference, Beverly, in their home opener. 

Beverly came out and scored just 21 seconds into the game to take the early lead.

Swampscott Senior Captain Sean Lannon countered with back to back goals to give Swampscott a 2-1 lead with 9:23 to go in the first quarter. The lead wouldn’t last long.

Beverly (ranked 20th in the Boston Globe State rankings) exploded with a five goal outburst for a 7-2 lead with 6:19 left in the half. Lannon then set up Patrick Kennedy to cut the lead to 7-3.

But there was no stopping the high powered Panthers. They added three more goals for a comfortable 10-3 half-time lead.

Swampscott tried to make a game of it early in the second half. Sean Lannon got his hat rick at the 10:24 mark to make it 10-4.

Kennedy netted his second goal assisted by Chris Mason to close the gap to 10-5 at the 4:59 mark of the third quarter.  But Beverly kept the pressure on as they added two more goals for a 12-5 lead.

Kennedy countered with his third goal of the game with 17 seconds left to make it 12-6. The Big Blue could not mount a further comeback.

Beverly scored six unanswered goals in the 4th quarter to roll to an 18-6 win. Swampscott (1-2) takes on non-conference foe, North Reading on Saturday.
