Swampscott Little League Field Naming Ceremony Sunday

The field will be named for Al Duratti, Andrew Holmes and Alfio Cerone.

On Sunday after the 9 am Swampscott Little League parade, league representatives will name the field in memory of Al Duratti, Andrew Holmes and Alfio Cerone, said Dan Santanello, a member of the league's Board of Directors.

The three men volunteered for a combined 140 seasons or so of Little League baseball in town, enriching kids' lives.

Family members will be at Sunday's ceremony where a sign will be unveiled on the building behind home plate. The sign will bare the Duratti, Homes and Cerone names.

A formal plaque dedication ceremony will be held in the future at some point.

Last November selectmen approved the field naming after league representatives told the board how much of themselves the volunters had given to the league.

At least two of them worked on behalf of Little League to the very end of their lives. Al Duratti was coaching last summer, the summer he died.

On Sunday, the parade will begin at Hadley School in the Linscott Park area at 9 am sharp and will march up Redington Street to Forest Avenue and will finish at the Forest Avenue fields behind the Swampscott Middle School, said Rob Hopkins.

Once at the field, each manager will introduce their team, players, and coaches.

Meanwhile, 2012 season play is already winding down and the post-season approaches for the local ballplayers.
