Scrapbook: Season Ends for Defending Softball Champs

The Swampscott 12-year-old All-Stars got beat by Wyoma 11-6 Thursday.

The 12-year-old Swampscott players went down swinging losing to Wyoma 11-6 on Thursday in the championship round of the District 16 All-Star tournament.

Coach Jim Capone said the Wyoma team executed well, and did to his team what he had hoped to do against them.

That was play situational softball, moving runners along by bunting and staying aggressive on the base paths.

The Swampscott team mounted a 6th inning rally, causing the Wyoma coach to assemble his team at the mound to keep them focused on getting outs.

They got the final out after Swampscott scored three runs.

Player Agent Bob Powell said this was the end of a season that really started with pitching and catching clinics last winter.

The team battled back from injuries and played hard continuing the town's strong softball tradition that includes three state championships since 2005.

2011 won't be the fourth title, but the league will develop its prospect and get ready to compete next season.
