The girls basketball team moved to 5-1 on the season with a convincing 48-26 win over rival Marblehead Tuesday.

Coach Jack Hughes said his team's defense was key to their win on the Marblehead court.

"Offensively we weren't with it," he said. "We've had droughts before and we don't let it affect us defensively."

The Big Blue played with intensity throughout the game.

They swarmed on defense, crashed the boards and hit the floor for loose balls.

Niki Laskaris and Alexa Goldman played with fiery intensity at both ends of the court.

Ara Talkov blocked shots and converted plays on offense driving to the hoop.

The offense started clicking in the second half.

At one point Jesse DePaolo took deep shot and yelled in disgust knowing the shot was off the mark.

The shot, however, hit the rim, rattled off the backboard and took a strange bounce finally dropping through the hoop.

The Big Blue girls play next on Friday against Beverly.
