PHOTOS: Getting Ready to Play Ball

The ring of metal bats on balls signals spring's arrival.

Winter is officially over in Swampscott!  On Saturday, hundreds of baseball-crazed boys crowded the Swampscott High School field house for Little League baseball tryouts.  Under the careful direction of the staff from Hit Zone, the boys participated in three stations to show volunteer Little League managers and coaches their skill and enthusiasm.  The stations included: a batting cage, fielding grounders, and catching fly balls.

The boys were divided into groups as coaches watched, took notes, and encouraged their future players to do their very best.  Tryouts are conducted by age grouping, and many parents were also happily cheering the boys.

Also, the next Swampscott Little League fundraiser is Sunday, March 24th at UNO’s in Swampscott.  Please come out and support Swampscott Little League.  All proceeds go to run the league, and ensure any child that wants to play baseball or softball is able to participate, regardless of family financial situation.
